August 21, 2018

July and (most of) August 2018

It's Canada Day so we went and celebrated Dominion Day at Heritage Park.  We had a pancake breakfast.  This photo was taken mere seconds before Cara dumped the cup of syrup into her lap.

We rode on the old-timey carousel.

And got to see a classic Dominion Day parade.

Headbands from the future.

We got to see some mini chuckwagon races.  They seemed fixed.

The girls taking a break after a picnic.

We saw a magician perform some cool tricks.

Later that night, we went and watched some fireworks nearby.  Happy Canada Day!

We set some rules for the summer and also a challenge to read a lot.  The girls responded well...video games are good incentive.

With such creative kids, they have a lot of variety in what to do for creative time.  This day, they made muffins.

It was a hot start to the summer so we got the pool out.

Amelia and Uncle Jamie came over for some watery fun.

The girls really enjoy their youngest cousin!

Group shot!

Stampede Week started the week after Canada Day, so it was time for some pancakes!

The girls were good waiting in the long lines.

Pancakes with their choice of toppings makes it worthwhile.

Gwen riding a hay bale.

On some RCMP motorcycles.

They've been practicing their We Bare Bears act in the pool.  Maybe synchronized swimming is in their future.

The Stampede Lunch at Dad's work was rained out for a second year in a row.  But they still got face paint and a balloon cat!

Just as we walked outside to see the LAV, the skies opened up again.

But it was still fun!

More pancake breakfast the next day.

They can't get enough.

We saw this cool band.

And a petting zoo!

The baby goats were the favourite.

We went to Bowness Park with their friend to cool off in the wading pool.

Finally it was time to go to Stampede!  They are getting big but not too big for the kid rides!

Everyone's favourite mini-donuts.

They got to ride the dragon rollercoaster in the front row.

The giant slide is always a hit.

Potato sacks are provided.

Gwen wins the race.

Riding on some bees.

A drop ride.

This ride was intense but they loved it.

At least they said they did.  Gwen's face says otherwise.

Riding the Ferris Wheel.

What a view!

Selfie time.

The Mario Sisters.

The kids love the fun houses.

Riding the chair lift across the park.

Riding a torpedo.

Gwen channeling her inner Dr. Strangelove.

A classic!

Another classic.

A bit more intense than Mom remembered.

The mega slide looks like a rainbow.

Cara having fun on the bumper cars.

Gwen getting chauffeured.

Traditional Stampede milk and cookies (Wagon Wheels)

Two sweet little lambs.

We took in some of the animals.

And then rode some more rides.

Corn dogs are always a hit.

It's their favourite Stampede lunch.

They won some stuffies.

Rode another carousel.

Happy Stampede.

Gwen with her snowcone!

We found another Tilt-A-Whirl and rode again!

On July 14th it was SpongeBob's, so we celebrated with some Krabby Patties.

And luckily an ice cream truck was in the neighbourhood so we got some SpongeBob ice cream.  Gwen's was missing an eye but still delicious.

The chores are going well.  The girls are revealing that they are capable of many chores if motivated.

We had some friends over and had a birthday cake, leading up to the big day.

Back in the good ole days.

Mary took Adam out for lunch for his birthday and he got some decent fish and chips.

The kids giving Adam his gifts, including another Dominion set!

Strawberry rhubarb cheesecake!

Happy Birthday!

Amelia came by to celebrate with her favourite uncle.

Playing some modern, non-lethal lawn darts.

The poppies in our garden have bloomed and they are gorgeous.

The girls went to a day camp for the week with their buddies.

We hit Sikome Lake on a nice day.

Mermaid time.

The other mermaid!

Cara is a pretty strong swimmer so has a blast in the water.

More poppies.

Trying to earn some reading bingo squares.

The girls went to Heritage Park again.

And got some cheese buns.

Riding on the caterpillar.

And of course, the carousel.

We checked out the old cars.

Another day, we hit a spray park.

Sister love.

A rare picture: Gwen doing chores and wearing her glasses.

We went to the spray park another day and it started sprinkling on our way there.  But we kept going and the place was empty.

A little cold, but fun.

Having the whole place to ourselves was pretty awesome.

We swung by to help paint the community mural.  We were painting the rail for this train.

And also some explosions representing the oil boom.

Another day, another trip to Calaway Park.

Riding everyone's favourite: the carousel.

Having a campfire on a summer evening.

With sparklers!

Learning to play some First Nations games at Heritage Park.

It was tricky!

All aboard!

A calligraphy guild was there giving out free name tags.

Checking out the railyard.

More rides?

Can't miss the carousel!

We had a carton of eggs with 9/12 eggs having double yolks.  The kids were mystified.

Cosmo chilling in the bonus room.

More hot days, so more swimming.

Cara got a victory in Fortnite Duos and was very proud!

Cosmo's routine includes cuddling with Gwen before bed.

Cara tried speedskating at the Olympic Oval.

She got to wear some real speed skates.

She loved it!

The girls had another day camp at the climb centre.

They are bouldering like champs.

Time for some summer haircuts before vacation.

A drastic change for Cara but it looks awesome.

The rest of our summer including our big trip coming soon.
