Our last trip to Calaway Park of the year was a bit chilly but we couldn't miss out on the Halloween decorations. Gwen pretended to be scared of this witch.
This guy waited too long for his ride.
Gwen took us on a nice drive but had the A/C cranked.
We did a little scavenger hunt too between rides. It was a nice end to the Calaway Park season. Until next year!
Once a week or so we walk with the girls' buddy Leah to school.
Cara's class had an amazing opportunity to go to Glenbow Museum for a whole week of classes. They basically had a field trip every day downtown to the museum and got behind the scenes access. Here's Cara getting ready to handle some artifacts.
Up in the archives, there were all kinds of interesting things that the public does not get to see. The kids got to see a tin foil church.
The kids got to hold a real mace. It was so heavy they needed help to lift it!
The kids studied a lot of different exhibits. Cara was fascinated by the native artwork and tipi building.
Apple Day in kindergarten. Mommy volunteered and cut up the apples for the kids. Fuji apples were the favourite.
Sunset with some crazy clouds rolling in.
Lots of birthday party invites means a lot of new adventures for Cara. She got to try this cool climbing wall at an indoor playpark.
On Thanksgiving, we headed downtown for the annual Thanksgiving Day run. Daddy did it again this year. It took a while to get going and the kids were getting restless.
But they hung in there so they could cheer on their Dad.
It was a little windy and cold, so we had to keep warm.
Gwen helped do the warmup.
The girls' signs were a hit. "Run for Turkey" and "Run Turkey Run"
Other people were noticing their signs and getting a chuckle.
Daddy did the 5k in 24:38.
The cheering helped!
Ready for some turkey!
Cara got a Peter Pan set at the dollar store so she dressed up like Peter. Gwen was Elsa.
Cosmo likes pets from Cara, even if it is with a severed hand.
Cara looking like a big girl in her school photo.
Speaking of big girls, here's our kindergartener looking so grown up!
This year Cara chose a Halloween party for her birthday. The kids came mostly dressed up and we played some spooky games. Here are some buds doing the mummy wrap.
What a waste of toilet paper! We got the cheap stuff so it was worth the fun. Cara's costume was a vampire.
Lots of mummies.
Uncle Jamie made Daddy a mummy.
Then we had a reptile show come by with some creepy creatures. This is a salamander. The kids kept asking if it changes colour (it doesn't).
Gwen (dressed as Buddy from Dinosaur Train) petting a Texas Rat Snake.
A horned lizard.
A tarantula that luckily didn't escape.
Mary's reaction to the thought of a missing tarantula.
A ball python.
A stinky turtle.
This crazy thing was called a red tagu. It is like a lizard cat.
The kids got to pet most of the animals.
And the birthday girl got to pull a prize out of a bag...
And hold the animal of her choice: the Texas Rat Snake! It was pretty cuddly since it wanted to get warm.
We had some spooky snacks.
Group shot!
And then some Halloween cupcakes.
Our seven year old!
Daddy was a vampire too. Someone has to be undead with Cara so she doesn't get into trouble.
Group hug after presents! It was a lot of fun.
The kids finished their swimming class. Cara is very close to truly swimming and Gwen is getting better every day.
The best part of a Halloween party was we got to reuse the decorations for Halloween a week later. Here is our garbage bag spider.
Cara wearing her birthday outfit from Nanny.
Before Halloween we had another important day: Mommy's birthday. We went out to eat and got the staff to sing Happy Birthday to Mommy. The kids thought it was great! Mommy did too...?
Cara finished her dance class. She dressed as a vampire again and we got to see her dance number. It was awesome.
We carved a pumpkin for the school's Pumpkinella festival.
Designed by the girls, carved by Mommy.
The kindergarten classes hosted an assembly on the last day of school before Halloween. They sang a few songs and taught us about responsibility.
Gwen was a unicorn!
It was Gwen's last dance class on the same day.
She's becoming quite the ballerina.
There were only three kids in the class so we got quite the show.
They showed us their big number they'd been practicing. It was fantastic.
The girls with their Pumpkinella pumpkin.
Cara is able to put together Lego sets on her own now. Here she is with a Minecraft set she got for her birthday.
The kids helped with the carving but were a little grossed out by the gooey parts.
Cara's creepy pumpkin and a Pete the Cat pumpkin.
Our Pumpkinella pumpkin started rotting but it made it until the big night.
We put a Pac-Man pumpkin on our turntable. It looked pretty cool.
Group shot!
Gwen dressed as Sadness from Inside Out for Halloween. She didn't like the blue facepaint but got enough on to look the part.
Happy Sadness.
Cara was a spooky vampire.
All business.
Getting ready to head out with Daddy. After a break Mommy took them out for a bit too.
We were able to hit a record number of houses this year since Gwen can walk way faster. The second mild Halloween in a row.
We didn't get a lot of kids at our house (only 90 when we were expecting 150), so we had lots of left over candy too. The kids enjoyed their haul.
Stay tuned for November!
