Rollerblading ended for Cara's class with a disco party. She's so fast she can't even be photographed!
The kids loved it!
Gwen had been asking if we could ever go to a circus. One happened to come into town so we went and checked it out. The kids were excited...
Mostly for a treat!
The snowcones taste extra good because they are so overpriced.
We had great seats and enjoyed the trapeze act, the acrobats, these hanging guys...
where the woman basically used the man like a trapeze.
The clown family rode on crazy bikes and unicycles...including the "world's tallest unicycle"
There were not many animals, but these horses were pretty cool. Acrobats did tricks while riding them really fast around the center ring.
For the finale, the ringmaster revealed his true daredevil self and climbed on to the spinning wheel. He juggled flaming torches, jumped rope and even did it blindfolded!
The kids were terrified...he slipped several times but it may have just been showmanship.
We got our passes for Calaway Park so we went for our first visit on the next nice weekend. Cara is tall enough for every ride.
Gwen is getting up there...almost tall enough for the rollercoaster!
Of course, everyone's the right size for Dad's favourite ride: the carousel!
They may be getting to be big girls, but the kid rides are still a hit.
A fun day that would have been ruined if they floated away! Luckily, they stayed close to the ground.
This was the first ride Cara ever went on as a baby...now they ride on it solo :(
Ride Your Bike to School Day was a nice day. Their friend Leah rode her bike from our house.
Gwen with her buddy Sophie. Gwen has mastered everything except starting on her own. She'll get it soon.
The paths were busy, so Gwen had to be extra careful biking with her kindergarten buddies.
Gwen's favourite part is riding down the middle of the street!
Gwen likes helping in the kitchen, especially when cookies are involved.
Mary and Jamie went to see James Taylor at the Saddledome. It was great, he's still got it!
The girls' school had a family dance with a Candyland theme. Costumes were encouraged so Gwen went as The Cotton Candy Princess.
And here is her Royal Highness with her sister, The Popsicle Princess!
Cara made her own scepter.
Gwen and her friend Isla.
Leah had her own scepter too.
Rainy days are no reason not to go to the playground.
The kids' softball season ended with a tournament. Gwen whiffed on this one but smashed the next one! She's quite the hitter.
And she's getting better at running the bases!
Cara has gotten way better too. She boldly claimed she would hit each time she was at bat earlier in the season and she did it.
The only problem with little kids softball is they don't hit very far. Gwen finds fielding boring.
It really cooled off and some wind came in from the mountains, so they had to wear their coats but that didn't stop them from getting hits! Here's Gwen getting one.
And Cara showing the Minions who's boss.
Cara practiced for her next at bat to keep warm.
Afterwards, the girls got some medals from their coach.
Gwen was VERY excited to get her first medal.
Team photo for the Blue Jays.
Playing on the same team was really great.
They had another couple practices left to finish a great season.
The girls were invited to a traditional Mexican birthday party. This was the biggest pinata the girls had ever seen.
Cara manage to put a dent in it. It was full of candy but as tall as Gwen!
We bought a selfie-stick for our vacation and Cara wanted to get some practice!
Gwen lost her first tooth at bedtime one night! She was soooo excited!
And the Tooth Fairy came!
The kids got their picture taken in their uniform and they turned out great.
One day while mowing, Adam found a visitor in the backyard.
A tiny baby bunny!
He was very reluctant to leave the yard.
Even if we chased him away, he would come back.
And made a little den for himself under a tree. He's gone now, but it was an exciting few days and we are pretty sure he is the bunny that we see around every so often.
The kids were excited for Father's Day. They made breakfast in bed for Daddy. Gwen made this awesome card at school.
Cara sculpted an Inuksuk for him too!
And of course a new t-shirt!
We went to a playground and had a nice relaxing day. Best Father's Day ever!
It was Sports Day at the school and the theme was the Olympics. Gwen wore her baseball shirt and her Flames hat.
Cara wore her Sharks hat of course, and a California shirt. Here she is colouring world flags.
That afternoon there was a big thunderstorm...right at dismissal! The kids took shelter near the building to avoid the hail.
The last day of school was a pajama party for Gwen. Hard to believe kindergarten is over already.
Our soon-to-be Grade 1 and Grade 3 kids.
Gwen happened to be Special Helper on the last day so got to hold the "Grade 1 here we come!" sign!
What a big girl with her Hippo!
Her teacher Mrs Flynn will be missed and we think she'll miss Gwen too.
Gwen with some of her kindergarten buddies.
And one last pic with Sophie.
Cara and Leah posing after Grade 2. Leah is going to a different school next year so it will be hard for both of them. Luckily they'll still see each other outside of school.
Four buddies posing. Another storm was coming so we had to leave quickly!
Just as school ended, Gwen lost another tooth!
That's a big hole!
Next update coming soon...on our way East! Stay tuned.
