Calgary Expo 2013

Saturday was our annual geekfest at the Calgary Expo!
The girls (especially Cara) have been so excited for this.  They both had a slight cold but Friday Gwen's got worse.  By Friday night her eyes were all gooey and she was not happy (Jamie was a great babysitter for her while Mommy & Daddy started the geek weekend with a Weird Al Concert!)
Saturday morning Gwen was up at 6am happy but gooey so we started with a trip to the walk-in clinic and got some antibiotics and eye drops.  She really was in good spirits and we knew she'd like the Expo so off we all went to ride the train to the convention!
Mommy made the girls custom hair clips of their favourite characters.  Gwen's favs are Spiderman and Hulk (but we made Hulk pretty!)
Cara with pass pinned on her Darth Vader shirt!
Gwen fell asleep during the trip on the trains and had a great nap in the stroller.
When we walked in Cara spotted Darth Vader right away!  He loved her shirt!
Then she spotted Captain America - another of her favs!
This robot guy was cool - he played dance music like a walking stereo!
Daddy and Cara with the woman who played the T-X in Terminator 3 (the blonde sitting at the table).
On the left behind the pole is a blurry bit of the guy who played the T-1000 (Robert Patrick).
Lots of cool celebs at the Expo this year but we spent most of our time looking at the neat costumes and artist's work.
Cara's custom hair clips - Darth Vader and the other one is R2D2 (but not a good view).
We saw The Delorean from Back to the Future!
And some Ghostbusters!
There was a very cool display of Star Wars things made from Lego.
This is just part of the huge Ewok Forest set up that had moving parts and flying ships.
More Star Wars Lego.
Gwen is a huge My Little Pony fan and there was a hat booth that had Pony hats!  Gwen didn't want to try one on so Cara tried on a Rainbow Dash hat for Gwen to see :)
Gwen was excited to see Spiderman!
Even though she doesn't look it she really was happy :)
Not every day you see a R2D2 walking around on 2 legs!
There was a big Lord Of The Rings booth that had really neat stuff from the movies.
More from the Lord of the Rings booth.
"We wants it, we needs it. Must have the precious. They stole it from us. Sneaky little hobbitses." -Gollum
Some of the costumes people were wearing were so cool - this is a Marine from Warhammer.
Mommy had a staring contest with Smeagol.
Bane and Doctor Manhattan in a deep discussion about right and wrong.
Cara with our DVD of Nightmare Before Christmas signed by the voice of Jack Skellington...
Chris Sarandon!  He is also in a bunch of movies like the Princess Bride.  He was really nice and we all  thought it was neat to meet the voice of Jack.
This is a Stilt Spirit.
Kinda creepy.
Gwen met Optimus Prime!
We saw a troop of Vikings!
Galactus and Silver Surfer.
Right before we left Cara finally saw Iron Man - one of her most favourites!  So we got a pic of him too!
The girls got some comic books of Spiderman and Iron Man and Daddy started reading them on the bus ride home.
Everyone had sore feet from the long day at the Expo!

We had a great time at our 4th Calgary Expo! The girls were so good and had so much fun (even sick Gwen loved it)!

Gymnastics

We started up gymnastics class a few weeks ago and Gwen is still loving it.
Cara comes with us and has a class with her age group at the same time in the same gym so it all works out very nicely.  She is doing really well and enjoying learning all the cool new things.
Daddy was off this last Friday so he came along to watch and take a few pics.
Cara is doing the beams while Gwen was doing floor exercises in the background.
We also got this new wagon this week!
This will take them around the zoo, to the playground and around Calaway Park this summer!

Aggie Days 2013

Even though the weather is still wintery it is Spring and Springtime in Calgary means it is time for Aggie Days!
The girls wanted to wear their cowboy hats and were very excited to go see all of the cool agricultural exhibits from Alberta farmers.
Gwen got to try on a Fireman's jacket.  I think about 5 Gwens could have fit in there!
Cara had to try it too!
Next Cara got to meet and talk to this cowboy who was teaching kids how to rope a stear.
Cara loved talking to a cowboy!
 Gwen had to try too!
 We made some rope!
 Checked out some sheep.
Cara got to give this cow an examination!
She could feel the baby cow inside!
Daddy elbow deep in a cow!

**Haha - not a real cow!!**
We saw this sheep be shorn.
Our annual portrait by the giant tire!
The kids love hugging giant mascots (thanks to Disneyland) and they were very excited to give Harry the Horse a huge hug!  He is the Calgary Stampede mascot!
And they ran up for a hug from this other horse guy hanging out.
A mama and baby cow.
We saw so much stuff and had tons of fun this year at Aggie Days.  We planted seeds and are now waiting for our sunflowers to sprout.  The girls are excited for next year!

Spring Break

Cara had the week after Easter off school for Spring Break.  There was one nice day in the forecast (Tuesday) so we all went to the zoo with Leah, Sidney and Rebecca!
Sidney and Gwen had a great lunch.
Cara and Leah we so happy to run around the zoo together!
Gwen crashed for a nap in the stroller but the rest of the girls enjoyed some ice cream!  It was about 19 degrees and so nice that day!
The very next day it snowed :(
Gwen enjoyed some spaghetti for lunch and was happy even with the bad weather.
She has been doing great in her new bed.  Rolls out sometimes but has stayed asleep on the floor. She loves going to bed and goes to sleep on her own most nights (with Mommy sitting in the rocking chair).  So far so good!
Jamie was back in Calgary just in time for his birthday celebration!  We miss him when he is working up North but the weeks he does get in Calgary will be fun :)
After Jamie's birthday dinner at Nana and Howie's we all went to a Multicultural Night show.
There were dancers and performers from many cultures and was a very entertaining evening.
The girls were very good and especially enjoyed the Chinese Lion dance - at the end of the dance the lions spit out candy!
The finale of the show was the Ukrainian dancers doing their national dance.
They were great!
