Summertime!

Just in time for summer - a cold bug got Cara and Daddy this week. Cara had laryngitis for 2 days and kept saying "there is a frog in my throat!" She is a funny girl :) We still had some nice trips to the park and enjoyed some really warm days though. Welcome Summer!

Above: Gwen and Cara watching Sesame Street.

We made brownies one day since Cara woke up saying that she had a dream about chocolate. A recurring dream of hers!

She thoroughly enjoyed licking the spoon clean!

We are very close to having the basement all finished. This week we got our new futon (in the background) delivered. The box is just the perfect thing for Cara's colouring markers.

Gwen had a very good week. She is still working on crawling - moving around backwards really well. She had her first "self feeding" meal and did very good with a little help. She also seems to have found her "voice" and has started yelling very loudly...not crying or whining just a loud yell. It gets her noticed for sure!

She sits up unassisted very well now :)

Our happy happy girl!

A future supermodel?

Pretty soon she'll be crawling all over.

Cowgirl Cara modeling her new hat for Stampede and also just everyday wear.

Stay tuned for many more cowgirl moments - Stampede starts in a couple of weeks!

Happy Father's Day!

Gwen had her 7 month check up this week. She weighed in at 21 lbs and about 27" tall. She is doing well :) She's had a habit lately of getting me up at about 5 or 6 am to eat and giggle then going back to sleep and sleeping in until 930...would be great if Cara wasn't getting up at 7:30. Sweet sleep, I miss you!

Cara is being a sweetie pie. We had rain a lot this week so we had to stay in a play.

On Saturday we went to the Calgary Expo 2011. Cara and Daddy met Chewbacca and a couple of Storm Troopers.

We saw alot of celebrity guests (a couple of people of Battlestar Gallactica, Tia Carrere and Linda Blair) and many folks dressed up. Cara liked Optimus Prime and loved seeing Belle from Beauty and the Beast!

The highlight of the day was meeting Jonathan Frakes (Commander William T Riker from Star Trek TNG). We waited in a very long line for over an hour. Cara and Gwen were the only kids in the line and they both were very good - no crying at all!!! Cara kept saying "where's Riker?" He is a very nice guy and didn't rush anyone by even though the line was huge. Maybe we'll adopt him - he fits into our family portrait so well ;)

Last year Cara met R2D2 and this year she got to introduce Gwen!

Daddy had a great Father's Day!
Cara and Gwen made him a shirt and hat with their handprints on them. He wore it with pride :)

#1 Daddy
We went to the playground and Daddy snuggled with Gwen while Cara ran around playing.

Cara had so much fun playing!

Daddy with his girls :)

Ending the day with some Mario Kart on the Wii.

Happy Father's Day to all the fathers in our lives - we love you!!!

A Horse Is A Horse...

Gwen is 7 months old now. It has gone by so quickly! She is really rolling all over the place and playing with her toys. Cara is really good at making her laugh during supper and Gwen likes to eat a great variety of things now.

She is a very good and happy baby :)

We had some nice sunny days for a change and after being stuck in the house due to rain and having the roof redone while we were inside we needed some outside time. We took a trip to the park and Gwen watched all the kids playing from her stroller.

On Friday Leah and her Mommy came over for a visit and we went to the park again. The girls had a great time.

Daddy having some Gwen time watching the Stanley Cup Finals.

Gwen's newest trick! She found her knees and is getting ready to crawl! She wants to get moving in a bad way and she is getting stronger all the time.

Nana with the girls.
Nana and Howie had an afternoon out with Cara on Saturday. They took her to see Cavalia (a horse circus type show - like Cirque Du Soleil). Everyone had a great time!

On Sunday we continued the horse themed weekend and went to Spruce Meadows to see some horse jumping. The Nexen Derby was on to end the National tournament. We drove there in some heavy rain and some lightening but it was clearing by the time we arrived.

We saw some marching bands.

And learned all about horses.

Cara measured in Hands.

We had a great spot on the grassy hill to watch the jumping. Cara really enjoyed the flags and picking the grass.

Snacking away.
When the horses would jump the gate closest to us she'd stand up and clap and say "Yay Horsey!".

Gwen did very well in the carrier - skipped a nap but loved the people watching.

A shot of one of the horses. It was much more interesting to watch this sport in person...although if you were watching it live on Bold then you might have seen us.

Gwen makes some pretty funny faces these days.
This is her "Oh, no, that horse got a fault" look.

This is her "I am happy to be in the stroller when it isn't raining" look.

We had a long long wait in the car getting out of the parking lot of Spruce Meadows...it was almost an hour until we were really on our way home. We passed the time with Cara's magnifying glass and a good dose of Raffi.

Bonus Gwen Picture!

A bonus Gwen pic since it got missed on the last update. We get so many pics of Cara and Gwen is usually sleeping in the carrier or in the car seat and doesn't get in the pic. Enjoy this extra one of Gwen! She is really trying to move on her tummy now and should be crawling pretty soon. She wants to join Cara in all of the running around!

June days at parks

On Saturday we had a Baby Group picnic with the old baby group. It was a cold and rainy morning but the kids had fun playing at the playground. Cara and Leah liked the swings.

And they liked spinning in the tire swing.

Cameron and Cara had a good laugh with the chipmunk.

And Zoey too.

Leah, Cara and Levi driving in the car.

Sunday was a very nice day...Cara was up again at 6am so we were tired but a nice time in the sun made it better. We went for a walk in Fish Creek Park. Cara likes looking for creatures.

Gwen snoozed for most of the walk but also enjoyed the green scenery.

I told Cara that there was a clown in the camera lens so that she'd look at the camera during pictures...she wanted to see this clown close up.

Lots and lots of prairie dogs at the park Cara was chasing them down their holes.

Getting a lift from Daddy.
