Raising Mini-Geeks

Sisters that love each other!
The annual Calgary Expo was this week and we all went for a day of geekiness!  We went before in 2010 and in 2011 and this year was even bigger with the entire cast of Star Trek The Next Generation reuniting at the Expo for the show's 25th Anniversary.
Mummy made each of us a custom t-shirt with a classic line from the show.
We met and saw all of the cast (except Captain Picard way too crowded!).  They were all nice especially Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher) and Marina Sirtis (Counselor Troi).  Wil Wheaton told us how much he liked our t-shirts!!
 Ghostbusters!
Spiderman!
Cara and a big robot!
Boba Fett!
Belle!
Cara's favourite: Darth Vader!
Daddy's favourite: Legendary WWF Wrestler Honky Tonk Man!
This was taken at about 10:30am and afterward Daddy said that Honky Tonk smelled like he'd been drinking...
We went to a panel of a few of the Star Trek guys.  Gwen was a good girl and really like clapping with all the Trekkies.
Cara amused herself and really enjoyed when Levar Burton got the whole place singing the Reading Rainbow theme song!
We also met this guy - Jim Cummings.  He has been the voice of Winnie the Pooh since the 80s and does Tigger's voice too.  As well as a bunch of other voices for lots of cartoons.  He did every voice that Cara knew for her which really blew her mind - she stood and stared in amazement! (Gwen was napping at the time).  He also signed our Winnie the Pooh books for the girls.
When Gwen woke up we had a some time to play in the kid-fun area.  She bounced on this while Cara got to go in a bouncy castle (Gwen was very jealous!)
Cara bounced a bit too!
We had a great day at the Expo.  We added to our Star Trek TNG autograph collection and saw lots of neat costumes.  It got crazy when thousands of people showed up by noon and for a while the Fire Marshal stopped letting people into the show.  It was very crowded and a lot of people who had tickets didn't get in at all.  Luckily we did and had a great time!

Aggie Days

This weekend we went to Aggie Days!
This is an agricultural fair for kids that is put on by the Calgary Stampede.  It is very similar to what they do at the Stampede but there is more for Aggie Days.  We saw goat milking, bunny races, baby chicks and sheep sheering!  Cara made rope, planted seeds and made butter!  We also collected a bunch of pencils (Cara's favourite part!).
The girls in front of a huge tractor wheel.
There were lots of real animals there but Cara really enjoyed the statues!
Turning a crank, making her own cowboy rope!
Gwen loved all the animals and walked around quite a bit.  Then she rode around on Mummy's back.
Our girls with their Indian Princess hats on.  The photo behind them is of this year's Stampede Indian Princess Amelia Crowshoe.
Native dancers!
The boy is doing the Chicken Dance and the girl is doing the Fancy Dance.  They were fun to watch and Cara and Gwen both were looking for some new moves.
Cara learned about being a cow - including being branded!
And she got a pencil so that made her especially happy!
Bumped into Calgary's Mayor Nenshi while we were looking at the piglets!
Gwen getting a close look at a chick.  This was after lunch and she was very tired hence the "what am I supposed to do with that?!?" look.  She did pet it and said "Hi!".
Cara got to hold the chick and was so cute.  She said she was smiling at the chick so he wouldn't be afraid of the camera flash.
Daddy and Cara going through the "corn" maze!
Aggie Days was so much fun and now we're really excited for this year's Stampede!

A Day at the Zoo

It was Cara's turn to have the stomach bug this past week.  Since it was Spring Break from preschool she didn't have to miss any school and we ended up spending the week watching movies and cartoons (we did not take pictures of any of this stuff).
She got better over the weekend and today we went to the zoo with our friends Leah, Sidney and Rebecca (where we took some pictures that we'll share with you all now!).
This penguin came to check out the new visitors.
Gwen watched some penguins zooming around through a bubble window.
Cara and Leah really missed each other during the school break so this was a fun day. They were holding hands and really get along nicely.
The bestest friends!
 Gwen riding a lion!
She had a great time at the playground climbing all over and going down new slides.

Gwen and Sidney also seemed happy to see each other.  They are used to seeing each other in the strollers while the big girls are at school.  They reached out to hold hands too!
The little girls chatting away!

Easter 2012

We started our Easter weekend with a trip to Costco where we picked up a two pack of the cutest kids in Calgary! (maybe even Canada!)
Daddy and Cara got to do some egg dyeing.
Saturday night Cara got a snack ready for the Easter Bunny: one carrot, one radish, cucumber slices and 2 pickles.  She informed us that bunnies really love pickles.  And the next morning when the pickles had been eaten she said "see, I told you he likes pickles!".
Gwen was looking at the nice snack Cara made...
and helped herself to a cucumber slice!
Easter morning's Egg Hunt outside.  It might have been a bit too cold.
Cara was so cold she couldn't pick up any eggs and Gwen just wanted to go for a walk!
Gwen did enjoy checking out the contents of the eggs though.
It was a nice sunny day so after breakfast we went to a park.
Cara on the teeter totter.
Family portrait #1.
Gwen and the Cottonwood trees.
Cara - wishing she was back at the playground.
Family portrait #2 - with a crane!
The Easter Bunny brought us an awesome bubble machine that has a fan and blows 800 bubbles in 60 seconds!  It is a lot of fun!  Cara tries to blow them and catch them at the same time!
Gwen and the bubbles!

Happy Easter everyone!
