Feed The Birds

We've had a two week long melt here in Calgary and it was so Spring-like we could hear birds chirping on our walk home so we made some birdfeeders - Cara only licked the peanut butter!
 Cara cantaloupe.
 Gwen!
Gwen started her ballet class last week.
She loves it!
She's a maniac on the floor!

They also started skating class and Cara was excellent - after a few minutes she was getting up and skating around.  Gwen did awesome for her very first time on normal skates - she even stood up all by herself!

January Routines

We are all back into our routines now and Cara is enjoying kindergarten.  She made this adorable family portrait out of clay in December and got to paint it and then bring it home last week.
She started a clay class outside of school one day a week and so far she likes it.
Gwen is loving preschool and show & tell is her favourite part.  She is going to be doing ballet classes this term and she is very excited for that to start!
We had a meetup with the old "Baby Group" this weekend.  Most of the families came and there were a ton of kids! The girls had a great time even though they didn't remember anyone!

Happy New Year!

 Happy New Year!
We took our annual portrait by the tree on New Year's morning.
The girls were getting excited - Cara's BFF Leah was coming over for a sleepover that day!
Manicures, dance party, movie and treats - eventually they went to sleep.
For a first friend sleepover it went very well.
They were smiling in the morning :)
Freya came over for a holiday visit on the last weekend of the break.
The girls all had a lot of fun!
 Silly faces!
Cara went back to school on Monday, Daddy went back to work on Tuesday and on Wednesday....
 Gwen started Preschool!
She was and is still so excited for school.
Finally a "big girl" who can go to school!
She loves wearing her backpack.
She had a great first day and didn't miss Mommy one bit.
She goes Wednesdays and Fridays while Cara is in kindergarten and so far she loves it!
Nana and Grampa Howie came home to Calgary after their Christmas in NB.
We celebrated with a joint birthday cake for them!
We had a really great Christmas season.
The girls pic from our photo session in December - a great photographer!
The Byrne Family 2013 - looking forward to many more fun times and great memories ahead in 2014!

Christmas Holidays 2013

We had a great visit with Grampy and we'll catch up through Christmas to New Year's with this post.

It got pretty cold on the weekend of Grampy's visit but we headed to Heritage Park anyway - they open on weekends before Christmas and this was the last Sunday to go see what there was to see.
The old homes were decorated for Christmas and one of them had a craft for the kids to do.
Colouring!
The old schoolhouse was open and a good spot to warm up.
There was a massive model train set up in the snooker hall.
Here we are freezing outside the church - we got to go in and sing carols!
The candy store was half off since it was the last day so we got some treats then ate them on the cold walk out of the park...colder than when we went in.  Frozen candy.
So so cold.
Before Grampy headed back to NB we got some good pictures by the tree.
A really great visit and made the build up for Christmas even more fun!
Thanks for visiting, Grampy!
Christmas Eve we went to church and when we returned there were packages for the girls - Magic Sleeping Dust pjs!  With matching night caps and slippers too.  Lots of sleeping dust to last all year long!
After supper and in pjs the girls exchanged their gifts to each other - Cara gave Gwen a stuffy Rapunzel and Gwen gave Cara a Mulan barbie doll.
So much anticipation for the next morning - Cara totally knew what was coming and Gwen knew Cara was excited so she was excited!
They left a snack for Santa and the reindeer.
And posed for another picture by the tree.
This year the girls each had a small tree in their rooms and Santa thoughtfully left one gift under their trees!
Christmas morning Gwen got up (around 8 or so) and went and snuggled with Cara in her bed until Cara woke up enough to realize what day it was!  Then they jumped out of bed and found their first presents.
So much happiness!
Their reaction to the tree!
Wow!
Gwen got some masking tape in her stocking!
They were hungry so we stopped for some breakfast and a hug.
Cara's favourite Star Wars guys.
Cara and her microscope from Santa.
Cara in a sweater she got from Nana and Howie.
Opening a present from Nanny and Papa.
Darth Cara or Cara Vader?
Gwen loves opening presents - especially one that she was hoping for!

Cara and her Art Desk that she was hoping Santa would bring.
The "after" shot.
Joyful chaos!
The Fairy Princess!
Playing her drum set!
Cara loves her desk and is making great drawings and paintings these days.
We had a yummy turkey dinner - Jamie and Leah came for some Christmas celebrating too!
Happy girls love Jamie (and now they love Leah too!)
During the week between Christmas and New Years we did a few fun things.  Stayed home and played with the new toys, went sliding, watched movies and went to the Lions Festival of Lights that we go to every year.
We had some warmer days so we went on the last warm night.
It was very windy so not very warm!
The tempurature was dropping fast - it was +5 when we left home and -5 when we got back and hour later and kept dropping through the night.  Brrrr!
A good cold night to try out the warm nighties that Nana made for the girls!
And have a sleepover in the sleeping bags we gave the girls for Christmas.
Rudolph and the Abominable Snowman.
Before we knew it it was New Year's Eve!
We drove to the hill to lookout over the zoo for the 8pm fireworks.  It was snowing and very beautiful.
There was still one more week of holidays though - lots more fun to be had!
Stay tuned for the next update and Happy New Year!!!!
