July Birthday Fun

We'll start with a pic of the girls eyeing Daddy's birthday ice cream cake from last week.
"How can a cake be ice cream?"
The girls' gift to Daddy was a desperately needed new computer.  Daddy ordered the parts this week and on the weekend the girls (and some little people) helped put it all together.
Cara with her Olympic torch getting ready for the opening ceremonies!
Saturday we went to Sidney's first birthday party.  Gwen and Sidney are getting to be good friends just like their big sisters!
Cara, Leah, Gwen and the other kids had no problem helping Sidney open her presents.
Gwen enjoyed the cupcakes - she even said "cupcake"!
She's starting to say new words all the time now.

2 days in Drumheller

We went for an overnight trip to Drumheller, AB this weekend!
Daddy and Gwen checking out Horseshoe Canyon.
Cara was very excited for a dinosaur trip!
Horseshoe Canyon - a look at the Canadian Badlands.
Mummy and the girls.
We arrived in time for a picnic lunch.
We got eaten by mosquitoes!
After lunch we went for a walk over the Red Deer River - on a suspension bridge!
Then we made Cara's dreams come true by going to see this: The World's Largest Dinosaur!
And climbing up to the top!
This pic is from somewhere in the belly.
Cara in the jaws of the beast!
A nice view for being eaten by a giant dinosaur.
Sitting on the toe of the giant.
Then it was nap time for Gwen so we went on a drive around the Badlands.
We stopped at The Little Church.  Originally built as an actual place of worship - it only seats 6 at a time!
Cara at the lectern.
Cara at Horsetheif Canyon.
Horsetheif Canyon with a hint of yellow canola flowers above.
Gwen woke up and came to see the great view too.
We got a good look at this prairie dog.
 Another view of Horsetheif Canyon.
Then we crossed the river on this cable ferry.  A short crossing but the boat went very slowly!
We stopped at one more lookout of the canyon and got a good look at this little guy too.
Cara and some dinos at the lookout.
The Atlas Coal Mine was the next stop and we got to see what a coalmine was like in Alberta.  Quite different than the coalmine museum in Glace Bay NS.
After the coalmine we went on a 6km drive over 11 bridges to Wayne AB - home to the infamous Last Chance Saloon est. 1913.
Two hot kids waiting to check into the hotel!
After supper we went to the pool to cool off.
Then a story before bedtime.
Gwen was up puking at 1:30am for over an hour then Cara woke up at 5am for about an hour.
Luckily Gwen was better in the morning!
After breakfast we headed off to the Royal Tyrrell Museum.
Cara was so excited for dinosaurs and we were keeping an eye on Gwen (had her covered in a towel just in case).
Cara and Daddy and a dinosaur.
Cara seeing how she measures up to a dino footprint.
Gwen and Cara with some bones.
Gwen looked grumpy since she wanted to walk.
Mummy and Gwen.
Mummy and Cara.
Gwen finally got out to walk around and she loves dinos too.
Daddy and Gwen recreating a scene from the Ice Age movie!
Mammoth and Baby from Ice Age.
Daddy and Gwen.
Cara weighs as much as a coyote.
Gwen weighs as much as a fox.
Cara and her new dino friend.
Then we had some playground time.  Daddy was so good - on his birthday he was climbing all through the climber with the girls.  No getting old for him!
Cara coming down the slide.
The climb up the big dinosaur was such a hit Cara wanted to do it one more time.  So Daddy and Cara climbed up and Mummy and Gwen took a picture of them being eaten!
Our last stop before heading home was a visit to Reptile World.
There were so many cool reptiles all displayed in a way that you could spot them easily.
They even had a very friendly Boa Constrictor named Brittany that Daddy got to hold!  Cara and Mummy touched the snake too.  It was a very cool Birthday treat for Daddy!
Then we drove home and the girls slept nearly all the way.
It was a great 2 day trip and we all had alot of fun (except for the puking!).
