Grampy's 2012 Visit - Part 1

Grampy arrived on June 6 - the girls were very excited to get to the airport to see him!
We took Grampy to Crossiron Mills mall and looked around the Bass Pro Shops store to see all of their animal displays.  This deer had some secrets to share with Grampy!
The girls and Grampy with a polar bear!
We took Grampy to the park before school on Thursday.
On Sunday we went on a great adventure!
We took Grampy to the mountains for an overnight trip!
We drove to Banff and after lunch took a drive up to Lake Louise while Gwen had a nap.  We saw lots of wildlife - this elk, another elk, a few bears in the distance.  The animals were causing traffic jams as we drove through.
Cara had to touch Lake Louise!
After a drive back to Banff we made supper in our chalet at the Douglas Fir Resort.  The girls ate up quickly so that we could go play at the waterpark before bedtime!

Cara and Mummy going down the big slide!
Gwen and Daddy too!  Gwen went down twice and had the same expression on her face both times - not sure if she liked it or not!
Back in the chalet after a bath Gwen crashed and we made smores - Cara had been requesting them and since the chalet had a fireplace we brought along the supplies.  She loved her "marshmallow sandwich"!
In the morning we took the girls to the giant indoor playpark at the Resort.  Gwen loves slides!
Daddy spent a good 45 min crawling through the tunnels and sliding with them while Mummy got everything packed up.
Then we took Grampy to the Banff Gondola for a trip up the the top of Sulphur Mountain!
Cara really enjoyed the ride!
Daddy and Gwen went a bit off the trail to look at the gorgeous views!
It really was a beautiful day and some fresh snow that had fallen a few days earlier really added to the scenery.
Daddy and Gwen summit Sulphur Mountain!
We all had a great time up on the mountain top!
After lunch we visited the Banff Park Museum where Cara really had a good time looking at all of the stuffed animals.  The little wolf she is holding was her souvenir from the trip - his name is Wolfgang Byrne (Wolfie for short) and he now accompanies her everywhere!

That is the end of Part 1 of the trip - we had so much fun and there are so many pictures!  Part 2 will be up soon with lots more!  Grampy has 5 sets of pictures up on his website so you can check that out too!

  1. I can tell you that the deer is one of Santa's reindeer (Comet, actually) and she was letting me know how good Cara and Gwen have been. I saw the "secret" list and actually checked it twice -- and it's true! -- Grampy (dressed in Santa's summer fatigues)
