California - The First 4 Adventures

Our first full day in California was spent at Legoland!
All the cousins were so excited! Even Charlotte who spent her day off of Legoland at Legoland!
 Byrnes about to Legoland.
 So many fun lego sculptures.
Can you tell which girls are lego and which are human?!?
Lego Statue of Liberty!
Daddy and the girls having a fun ride.
 Cara off to joust.
 Gwen the happy jouster.
Just a couple girls playing Game of Thrones.
It's nice that Legoland has babysitting on site so the grown ups can ride the big rides!
The girls loved the lego Star Wars area.
 Darth Vader
 Leia and Luke
 Boba Fett
 Yoda!

The mini Star Wars set ups were awesome!
Cara holding the Death Star!

It was a hot day and the girls (with Daddy and Charlotte) cooled off in the big splash zone park.
We were not prepared for this - no towels, no change of clothes.
Thankfully they had giant size dryers so everyone dried off a bit.
 Jill and Cara flying.
Lucky girls got some face painting.
 So pretty.
 Lego Thinker.
Riley sculpted these for the girls.
Gwen just driving a lego car.
A fun up and down ride.
 Riley and Gwen.
 A lego kitty!
We saw some of the set from the Lego Movie.
More cute things in Heartland City.

These baby dinos are getting tired.
Fun on a ride with Charlotte!
 Another lego Statue of Liberty!

 We met the local law.

Building race cars cousins!
Legoland was so much fun!

The next morning was building time for the sets they got at Legoland.
Then we went to the beach!
 Sandcastle building.
 Sandwiches at a beach picnic.
 Sand carrots too!
It was a great hot sunny day!
Lots of waves for jumping, boogie boarding or just to lose your sunglasses in!

Cara picked up boogie boarding quick with help from Uncle Mark!
 She loved it!
Cara with a lizard on the walk to the beach.
Gwen with her favourite stuff Pirate Booty!
 So beautiful at the beach!
You can almost watch all of our skin burn!!
(for real, don't forget to reapply that sunscreen like we did!)
Cara and a little butterfly that photobombed the pic!
 Moonlight State Beach
A great choice for us land locked Albertans!
The Byrnes after a fantastic day at the beach!

Yes we burned, but it was worth it.
We love the beach!
The next day was going to be hot so we thought an indoor adventure might be good.
So we went to The Natural History Museum in Balboa Park.
Outside there was a gigantic tree!  Beautiful!
We came for the dinosaurs - we saw a 3D movie about dinosaurs then we went to the exhibits.

Cara loves ammonites and she saw a great display!
Lots of great exhibits here.
 Gray Whale skull.
A real live black widow spider!
 A brown widow spider!
 Cara in a bubble!
 Another skull!
There was a very cool exhibit about skulls of all kinds of animals.
 This is an owl skull!
Crazy eye sockets!
Girls riding in a big beetle.
So it was very very hot...like 100 degrees!
So the kids cooled off in a fountain.

Then we got some ice cream.

And rode on a very old carousel!
 It was super cool.
One of the girls favourite things from the trip - story time with Uncle Mark!
The next day we went to Oceanside Harbour to walk around and explore a bit.
On the way we went to lunch at Chipotle!
Yummy!
Back to Oceanside Harbour - this guy was making giant bubbles it was cool!
The girls got to pop some and they loved that.
We walked out to the beach and had some fun exploring.
The girls found lots of shells and pieces of shells.
