Stampede Week

We had a busy and fun Stampede week this year.
Tuesday we went to Daddy's work's Stampede Breakfast.
Since we were in the middle of a heat wave a breakfast was a good idea - 8am it was 26 C!
Nothing like eating pancakes in a parking lot!!!  Yahoo!
Wednesday we went to the zoo with Rebecca, Leah and Sidney.
The big girls riding elephants.
Gwen riding a zebra!
Giant Atlas moth in the butterfly garden - huge and freaky!
Friday we ventured down to the Stampede grounds for some cowboys, cows, rides and corn dogs!
This was the 100th year of the Stampede and there were record crowds every day.  We got there early and didn't have to wait in line too long.
Cara had fun on some rides.
Her first trip into a fun house - she is obsessed with haunted houses but is too afraid to go in so we told her that fun houses are haunted houses for little girls where they leave the lights on.  She accepted this.
Cara and Daddy after the fun house!
Gwen loved this carousel.  She went on it twice.  She was laughing and waving and having a blast!
Weeeee!
The girls and Daddy fishing for some prizes.
We took a break from the rides for a My Little Pony show!  Cara's favourite Pony Rainbow Dash was in the show!
After the show it was time for lunch - aka Corn Dog time at Stampede!
There were many great displays this year to celebrate the centennial.
The girls relaxing in the teepee.
This is the zipline tower they built this year - 17 stories!
 Piglets!
Mama Sheep!
Cowgirl Cara!
Then it was time for the best snack on the grounds - Milk and a Wagon Wheel for $1!

Yummy!
While they had their snack some goats came for a visit - Cara was petting them!
We had time for a couple more rides before we went to a horse show called Tails.
Gwen chose the carousel again!
Cara went on a jeep ride.
A clip from the Tails show.  It was very good and had many animals - even a bison and a herd of cows!
Gwen lasted for about 35 minutes of the show then was too squirmy and starting to get loud so we went back to the rides.
She went right to sleep in her stroller.  She was tuckered out!
Cara and Mummy went on this swing ride that is a kid`s ride but was awesome - felt like a rollercoaster!  Cara screamed (for fun) the whole time and Mummy held on tight!
Then Cara went on this motorbike ride - she looked like this the whole time.  When she got off she said she loved it but her expression makes us unsure.
We finished up our day on the grounds with some popcorn and a walk to the Indian Village area.
Bright bead work and other items were on display.
A few more teepees were open for viewing too.  Cara and Gwen had a good time exploring them!
Then we grabbed the train back home - 7 hours at the Stampede and this year there was so much to see and do we skipped some areas.  It was a great Stampede Day!

  1. What a great coverage of the Stampede with the Byrne girls! Cara and Gwen obviously had a great time! The Merry-Go-Round is more my speed! That ride where you are held with chain links would get a scream out of me! -- Grampy
